AuxiliaryMission Statement: “It is the mission of the Wesley Willows Auxiliary to serve and support the residents of Wesley Willows, to be goodwill ambassadors between the community and Wesley Willows, and to raise monies for the Good Samaritan Fund and other worthy causes that benefit the residents.”Wesley Willows has a proud history of faithful and hard working volunteers. Thirty-eight years ago a dynamic woman, Mrs. Bernice Horton, with the blessing of the Board of Trustees, formed a “ladies” Auxiliary at Wesley Willows. Its mission was to raise money for the Good Samaritan Fund. Their first project was an antique shop opened in Minnie Johns home (founder of Wesley Willows). Along with the antique shop, an annual Fall Benefit was begun. It often took the form of an antique show, a fashion show, or a card party, and was held under a large tent on the Wesley Willows lawn. As the resident population grew, Auxiliary services expanded. The antique shop moved to the main building and was eventually renamed the “Golden Oldies Resale Shop.” The Fall Benefit evolved into the October Bazaar with a luncheon and Peek ‘N Seek Night. A card and sundries shop was opened and Auxiliary services expanded to include monthly Birthday parties for Health Center residents, an annual Ice Cream Social in July, a December holiday tea, wheelchair transporters, holiday tree decorating, and so much more. The Auxiliary has made significant gifts to enhance the lives of residents at Wesley Willows, including a handicap accessible van, wheelchair accessible shampoo bowls for the Health Center Beauty Shop, assistance in the purchase of a new bus with a wheelchair lift, and most recently, a beautiful new gas fireplace in the Luehring Lounge. All of this, in addition to keeping faithful to their commitment of a $10,000 yearly gift to the Good Samaritan Fund. Wesley Willows would like to express sincere appreciation for the Auxiliary’s untiring devotion, commitment and never ending enthusiasm. Without their dedication, we would be an organization without a soul. We welcome new members of the Auxiliary both men and women. If you would like to join this marvelous group of volunteers, send an e-mail to John Roberts, or call 815-316-1534.
